More from Sprout Co-Founder Ed Sladen | Sprout Coffee, Melbourne
Following on from our last post, Ed talks about Sprout’s clients, services and maintenance, as well as challenges and trends…
Sprout Coffee grew from the seed of an idea – the idea that communities and land are affected by the coffee we drink at the office, and that effect should be a positive one. So we created a coffee business that delivers Fairtrade products and energy efficient coffee machines to the workplace, and closes the loop by returning coffee grounds back to the soil. In essence, we built sustainability into our business model and embedded it in everything we do, so when we learned more about becoming a BCorp, we knew it was something we needed to be part of. We’re so honoured to have achieved BCorp certification, and now our customers can be even more confident that every Sprout cup they pour has a positive impact on the people and places it touches along the way.
“Not just good office coffee – office coffee that does good.”
Certified B Corporations are part of a global movement of people using business as a force for good. To be accredited, companies must meet the highest standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability. Sprout is proud to have joined a community of more than 2,000 BCorps in over 150 industries and 60 countries with 1 unifying goal – to redefine success in business.
Though Sprout has always been a purpose-driven business, the process to become BCorp certified wasn’t a simple one. It involved a rigorous evaluation measuring our impact on workers, community, environment and customers to ensure our actions and philosophy was aligned with goals and purpose of BCorp. Luckily, we ticked plenty of (recyclable) boxes with our ethically and environmentally sound practices:
Becoming BCorp certified is a journey not a destination, and we continue on our purposefully forged path. Part of this is to inspire other organisations to make positive choices that reduce their footprint and increase levels of awareness and behaviour change. We’re excited to join forces with like-minded partners, supporting one another as we grow a global economy that recognises the power of business as a tool for good.
From the design of our strategy, processes, product selection, suppliers and partners, we are all about living true to our purpose – to give back. Now with the BCorp stamp of approval, our customers can be sure they’re connected to a sustainable supply chain which moves them closer to their corporate and social responsibility goals. Choosing Sprout means they can be satisfied with great tasting coffee that makes the right kind of impact.
